    Amazon.com Product Description
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.

    Story
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

    Gameplay
The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them.

Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches.

    Special Ops Co-op Mode
Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality.

    Key Game Features

    • Challenging Multiplayer ModesModern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
    • Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
    • An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
    • The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
    • Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
    • Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
    • New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
    • New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
    • New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

4 out of 5 stars Fun, but be warned   July 28, 2010
    Quinton Watson (utah)
As much as I don't want to repeat what other reviews have said, I feel that i must bring it up in my review. This game has been one of the most anticipated games to be released in 2009. With that is going to be a lot of hype from almost every person. As with any game that comes out there is going to be problems with the game, whether it be in singleplayer, spec ops, or multiplayer, and i will address these issues later in my review. I will break up the my review into three parts, each with two sub parts. Singleplayer, Spec Ops, and Multiplayer. Each with Pros and Cons.

    SINGLEPLAYER

The games campaign starts five years after the events of Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare takes place. Ultranationalists have taken control of Russian and one of Imran Zakhaev's (The main antagonist in COD4) former lieutenants, Vladimir Makarov, has begun a campaign of terrorism in Europe over the course of those five years. You will play as a number of characters, including a U.S. Marine, Taskforce 141 operatives, and a undercover CIA agent (which is the same character as you play the US Marine).

The Controversies surrounding the single player campaign includes the level "No Russian". This level revolves around a deep in cover CIA operative who has been place inside Makarovs posse. During this level you partake in the massacre of a Russian airport. NOTE: that you have the option to skip this level where it has very disturbing gameplay. this level has created a huge controversy issue in all part of the world (im talking about real life). if you go onto [...] and search for this game you will be able to find a more detailed page about what i am explaining. The rest of the game goes on front there. A Russian invasion lands of the home front of the United States due to the CIA agent loosing his cover by Makarov, thus the russians find out that a American was in the posse, and claim revenge on America. (what i have just said some player did not understand in the game). The game is fast paced, to say the least. It wont take long for the occasional gamer to finish it. The gameplay has about six hours in it. you could probably beat the game on normal in a day if you wanted to. Veteran is challenging, but not as much as in previous Call of Duty games.

PROS: -Graphics a amazing, gameplay in intense, simple controls, and you can get the hang of it rarely quickly.
CONS: - To short, some minor plot holes.

    SPEC OPS:

Spec ops are a side co-op gameplay that makes up for the short storyline. These missions have nothing to due with the actual storyline of the campaign. various modes include stealth operations, defensives and offensive levels broken up in various difficulties. There isnt a really downfall for spec ops, its a lot of fun playing with someone on the couch next to you or one of your buddies online.

PROS: -fun, exciting, intense and challenging
CONS: -there is no matchmaking for spec ops (thats the only con i see about it.)

    MULTIPLAYER:

This is going to be a big chunk of information that i am about to share with you.

The games multiplayer is one of the most popular. The game has a overall of 24 Primary Weapons, 19 secondary weapons, 16 perks, 7 pieces of Equipment, and 3 special grenades. This will keep you busy trying to unlock all the weapons attachments and various camouflages. My dilemma is that they should have put in a more variety of weapons. Specifically more Assault rifles, Submachine guns, and Sniper rifles. while multiplayer can be fun, i want to enjoy it a lot more than i actually can. and the persons fault for this is other people.

If someone finds good weapon they will exploit its every stat, until it becomes a weapon that everyone will use and the balance of gameplay falls. A example of this weapons is the UMP .45 submachine gun. I have been sniped, and killed with this weapon too many times to count and i will refuse to use it. Its stats are better than most of the assault rifles and the ways that people abuse it are just pathetic.

As "balanced" as the game developers stated that this game would be...its not. Killstreaks are the reason for this. as is the Spawning system this game has. If the opposite team gets the chance they will call down airstrike after airstrike and chopper after chopper and AC130 after AC130 till it gets to the point where i can not spawn and live for ten seconds until being spawn killed. the "deathstreaks" suck because if they are getting spawn killed, well it doesnt really help them at all. Then you will find the players who cant be patient and have to hack their way into the game so that they can get all the emblems and titles to their profile. and they will Tenth Prestige Hack to get those. making the Legitimate players who have gotten those ranks themselves feel like their time was wasted.

And since Infinity Ward made over one billion dollars in revenue. and since they had to get more money for god knows why, you would have to pay 15 dollars to get the map packs. so all together the game and the map packs would be almost 100 dollars....really? BF BC2 lets you have free map packs to most players.

Overall i enjoy the multiplayer with my friends but not alone, the thing people would do to get kills are pathetic to say the least. Also i hate it when i get to play online a a little child is scream cuss words in my ears. Its RATED M FOR A REASON. MATURE PLAYERS ONLY! is that so hard to get around parents mind? but i guess if parents need to get it so that they can shut there child up and not discipline them, whatever.

As a whole i enjoy this game to a limit. I would recommend to a friend, but also warn them as well.

It is a tough game to master, but it presents interesting scenarios where war-like situations are recreated. If you enjoy some stress with your fun, this game is for you. Intense, fast paced and challenging.

5 out of 5 stars Best Call of Duty   July 26, 2010

This is a great game. It's my favorite in the COD series and I recommend it for any COD fan!

3 out of 5 stars Treyarch is better at the series   July 25, 2010
    JR in MA (MA)
The game is fun, don't get me wrong, but I get bored with it. I find Treyarch's World At War to be a better Call of Duty. This game just sits on my shelf. Looking forward to Black Ops.
