Product Description Starting programming in general and especially in Java is a challenge. A beginner dealing with Java needs guidance and orientation in the subject. This super-set provides all components related to Java training (language and IDE training, software and OS), and you can start learning immediately.
It was carefully distilled from the best OSF by top-ranking professionals, saving you the time and trouble of gathering information and components. This training offers detailed explanations, clear illustrated examples, and hands-on experience. The set contains video training, textbook material, lessons, programming examples and additional programming tools. The DVDs also include a complete installation of Java development tools for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
In a case you are preparing for a job in a UNIX/Linux environment, this set also provides a complete installation of the most popular Ubuntu Linux and "Intro to Linux" DVD and the complete "UNIX Academy Training Library" of 13 books in PDF format. This set allows you to learn from the course and evaluate real Java code applications, showing you just how intricate an advanced operating system like Linux can be! Starting from scratch, the course takes a complete newbie into professional workflow.
By the end of the first course, you will be in full command of Java programming language, its IDE and completely prepared for a professional programming routine. Additional videos give you a look at various advanced extensions and Java techniques. This course requires work and diligence. It teaches the complete beginner with a traditional step-by-step approach. Each lesson builds upon knowledge acquired from previous lessons. This set does not stop with the basics, but takes you into professional-level programming.

My reference source March 25, 2010 Rick Mullin (Kenosha, WI) I first picked up this package at the behest of my supervisors to expand the division's web design to new borders. Having never programmed beforehand, I was daunted to say the least. I love this package. I have used this set every day for the past year. If I could only have one reference source, this would definately be it. Why did i buy this, for the simple reason as a new user a good comprehensive reference is extremely usefull and handy, and this is it, this is something i will all use or keep close at hand. This package is a hands on walk through the Java world.
Provides good orientation February 14, 2010 Jim Verstale (Parsippany, NJ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Java is very complex thing. When I tried it for first time my head was spinning! I am still learning ropes. I guess there's no easy way of learning it, that's why it is paid so well. This set takes you down to the Earth and make you learning it. I take a chapter per 3-4 days and follow all the projects. I also often go back to refresh things I learned few weeks ago. It is very important not to interrupt the training. We had 4 days vacation and the laptop was left at home, and when back to it, I had really hard time to write any program. May if your are a programmer already and learn java as new language it may be easier for you. I learned BASIC may be 10 years ago and it is really struggle for me. The included textbook, or training, are very well written and and very clear. Also all updates to it available online and it is a good thing so I never found a single example that don't work (happened a lot to me with books on Java). There are many video trainings on Java IDE included but I watched only few that are really necessary for my basic programming exercises. The set is very useful and gives good direction and orientation. If one expect learn java overnight, my personal experience suggests that is it not a realistic expectation. The set comes with Linux system and tutorial. I didn't realize it before, how important to have a familiarity with Linux for java programming. Practically 90% of java programming job posts require linux skills. I am absolutely newbie to linux. The Linux I installed with this set is a first Linux installation in my life. I know I should move to it completely, but it is just too much for me right now and I'm still using windows computer for majority of my daily tasks. The conclusion, the set is very helpful, but be prepared for hard work.
Best intro in programming February 11, 2010 Sarah Jason (Norfolk, MO) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am learning Java on my own and was just a novice at Java before I found this set. I'm not a computer professional so i was looking for something fairly basic to introduce me to linux. If you're wanting to get into Java and Ubuntu, this is a good place to start. I'm certainly no expert on all the titles available, but for me (as for know), I can't imagine needing another reference source. I think this set has really helped me to rapidly advance my Linux knowledge and skills. Finally, I don't know how to strech this more but listen: there is no better intro in programming.
The worst 5-disk Java training suite ever! February 9, 2010 Jose Javier Menedez (miami, fla) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This 5 disk set assembled by the UNIX ACADEMY TRAINING is a waste of time, money and a disgrace. The content of these disks can be easily downloaded on the web for free. Instead of helping a beginner it will actually confuse anybody trying to learn this wonderful computer programming language. I am very disappointed that an item like this is being sold by Amazon.com. Out of the 5 disk set only 2 actually work. I would recommend anybody looking at this set, to look at other options and not to buy it.
PS: I paid $25.94 for nothing.
Excellent way to learn Java December 25, 2009 William Sadarion (Oak Creek, WV) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This set is an excellent investment in time and money for anyone that wants to learn Java. If you are new to Java, and especially if you are new to programming, I recommend buying this set. It presents introductory concepts of both Java programming and Object Oriented theory very well. I'm now moving in to the new assignment fairly well and I am confident that I'll be able to pick up the details of this language now, that I've got such a good grounding from these 5 dvds.
